Veliki sastanak u Vašingtonu
Predsjednik Volodymyr Zelenskyy stiže u Vašington sa grupom evropskih lidera kako bi pred američkim predsjednikom Donaldom Trumpom pokazao jedinstvo u odbrani Ukrajine. Lideri su izostavljeni iz Trumpovog sastanka sa Vladimirom Putinom u Aljasci, pa dolaze zajedno da zaštite Ukrajinu i Evropu od dodatne ruske agresije. Cilj je izbjeći diplomatske promašaje poput februarskog susreta u Ovalnom kabinetu.
Poruke, pritisci i garancije
Na stolu su moguća NATO‑slična bezbednosna jamstva za Ukrajinu. Zelenskyy je poručio: "It’s important that America agrees to work with Europe to provide security guarantees for Ukraine, and therefore for all of Europe," a zatim je odgovorio na Trumpove poruke: “We all share a strong desire to end this war quickly and reliably.” i upozorio da “peace must be lasting,” jer je “Putin simply used it as a springboard for a new attack.”
Trump je napisao: “President Zelenskyy of Ukraine can end the war with Russia almost immediately, if he wants to, or he can continue to fight,” i dodao: “Remember how it started. No getting back Obama given Crimea (12 years ago, without a shot being fired!), and NO GOING INTO NATO BY UKRAINE. Some things never change!!!” Trump je takođe objavio: “BIG PROGRESS ON RUSSIA,” i rekao: “I had a great meeting in Alaska.”
Evropski lideri — među njima Ursula von der Leyen, Emmanuel Macron, Keir Starmer, Friedrich Merz, Giorgia Meloni, Alexander Stubb i Mark Rutte — razgovaraće o detaljima kako bi bezbednosne garancije za Ukrajinu bile ostvarive i održive. Rubio je upozorio: “How that’s constructed, what we call it, how it’s built, what guarantees are built into it that are enforceable, that’s what we’ll be talking about over the next few days with our partners who are coming in from overseas,” dok je istakao da bi takvo obećanje “would be a very big move”.
