Tesla i Autopilot kažnjeni u velikoj sudskoj presudi
Porota u Miamiju presudila je da je Tesla i njegov Autopilot djelimično odgovoran za sudar iz 2019. koji je usmrtio 22-godišnju Naibel Benavides i teško povrijedio Dillona Angula. Sud je naložio Tesli isplatu 329 miliona dolara, uključujući 200 miliona za kaznenu odštetu i 129 miliona za naknadu štete.
Vozač Tesle Model S, George McGee, utvrđen je kao 66 posto kriv za nesreću, dok je Tesla nosi 33 posto odgovornosti. Nesreća se dogodila dok je bio uključen Enhanced Autopilot; automobil je projurio kroz raskrsnicu pri skoro 60 mph i udario u parkirani SUV kod kojeg su stajali Benavides i Angulo.
“Tesla designed Autopilot only for controlled access highways yet deliberately chose not to restrict drivers from using it elsewhere, alongside Elon Musk telling the world Autopilot drove better than humans,” Brett Schreiber said. “Tesla's lies turned our roads into test tracks for their fundamentally flawed technology, putting everyday Americans like Naibel Benavides and Dillon Angulo in harm's way.”
Angulo je rekao 2023. godine: “I feel like we were experimented on,” Angulo said in 2023, “and this technology was out on the road before it was safe.”
Presuda bi mogla značajno usporiti Tesla Autopilot programe i planove za robotaxi usluge koje kompanija već širi iz Austina prema San Franciscu. “This will open the floodgates,” Miguel Custodio said.
